Union Representation

No one ever expects to be accused of doing something seriously wrong on the job, but it does happen. If you are an ACEA member and you are accused of wrongdoing, you are entitled to have ACEA representation.  If you need representation, call the ACEA office at (352) 377-7635 without delay.

Article VI, section 7 of the Instructional Agreement:

When a teacher is involved in circumstances which he believes could lead to a written warning, written reprimand, suspension, nonrenewal, dismissal or return to probationary status contract, the teacher may have Association representation at any conference between an administrator and teacher which relates to the matter.  An administrator who is considering such disciplinary action against a member of the bargaining unit will give the employee written notice, including the reasons for concern, no less than 24 hours prior to the conference.

Article VIII, section 3B of the Non-instructional Agreement:

Legal Services*

Have you heard that the school board provides legal services for its employees?  That’s true, but there are many things that can happen on the job that the school board will not or cannot help you with.  What if it’s the school board that is investigating you or reporting you to an outside agency, as they may be required to do in some cases?  That’s when you may need legal support that comes from outside of the school board.  Independent legal counsel will look out for YOUR interests.

Florida Education Association (FEA)

As a member of ACEA, you also become a member of FEA.  FEA protects the employment rights of members with both emergency and long-term legal services ranging from counsel on employment matters to complex legal challenges.  FEA members are able to enjoy the best and broadest free legal representation of any professional association in the state.  FEA has helped members with everything from contesting sick leave policies to winning back pay.

In order to access FEA legal services without a delay, it is important to notify your local union office (ACEA) first, not the FEA office.  The local president will contact FEA for you.

*Legal services are available to members only.
